FWIW we have been using Bootstrap 4 in production since early days of rolling out the v4-dev and we have had minimal troubles of upgrading it in various tons of projects.

It being a beta release, I guess it's for collecting feedback on github from a larger community. That said, I think the Bootstrap team really does a great job of ensuring their stated target devices/browsers are covered (more so than other CSS frameworks I know).
