This is painfully true. I so often hoped someone will explain some Linux stuff to me but... strace it is :)
I think the main point of the quote is that nobody knows everything. There are pockets of knowledge, and there are specialists who know quite a bit about Linux. ;) You just need to find that person and not expect them to also know about something completely different like Windows or Asian-Pacific geopolitics.
