I use VS Code too and it's extremely sluggish compared to a text editor like Sublime. I use it only because the plugin experience is much better than Sublime and the responsiveness is infinitely better than JetBrains' products.
I find it not fair to compare VSCode to JetBrains' product: one of them is an IDE, the other one is an editor, different features and different targets!
I disagree. VSCode is really a hybrid product. With plugins, it does intellisense and debugging, which are really the two major value-add features of an IDE for me. It's still light years faster than IntelliJ (and light years slower than Sublime). I switched from IntelliJ to VSCode and it minimally affected my workflow, so they're objectively not different targets in that regard.
