Ask HN: S3 Gateway to Tape Archive
3 points by permalac on June 16, 2020 | hide | past | favorite
Hi everyone, I'm looking for an S3 interface into our tape libraries (Spectra T950 and IBM TS4500), and their drives. LTO6 + LTO7 + LTO8 + JD3592 .

So far I have found 2 options:

https://www.point.de/en/products/point-archival-gateway/tape-based-s3-object-storage/

https://www.versity.com/scoutfs

However, each of those options comes with pros and cons, and if I could compare with other solutions I think I could get better results.

The current requirements are to re-archive around 40PB that we already have, and in the near future keep archiving around 2PB of new data every month. We do not usually read the data in TAPE, we only read when things go south, and when we read we read 10PB so we could even increase the number of drives on short notice.

Thanks for your help. And thanks for your questions if they are raised.

So, what other options are there to store data into tape without an agent, and without mounting a NFS or CIFS thingy?
