The pronoun "they" is enough if you don't know the person's gender[1] ;).

I was also unsure if that was just opinion of the core maintainer or a collective of committers. Again a "they" would have fine :) .

Most people, even the most rabid "anti-pronoun" people, have used "they" in the singular sense for decades without even realising it

"I had a great teacher at school" "Oh really, what was their name?"

etc

did you really have to add the pronouns mate?

"that's a great point" would suffice

wouldn't you agree?

The upvote button is fine if all you want to say is "great point"

or even just "they"

You aren't going to have a whole lot of company. All of the major style guides have given it the nod because they are practical.

It's a weakness in English, lacking a unique indefinite pronoun - so we're probably stuck with "they" unless a neologism sticks.

i have so much trouble with they as singular because ESL + romantic language with no genderless pronoun.

i always call users "he" because user is, by default, male in my native language.

Intended by whom?

You could potentially get fired, but I don't think you employer will actually end you for it.

If I were to die on an English-related hill, I would probably pick one that didn't put me in opposition with Shakespeare.
