Taken literally, that seems unlikely - Shakespeare, Homer, Dante, the Bible, etc. But I wonder how many we would recognize.


I suspect famous means famous in their time.

We know some of them just from pure output (think Charles Dickens) - but think of all the contemporaries of Cervantes we don’t know - the very people he was making fun of with Don Quixote.
