Are you talking about SF exclusively?

All the anecdotal evidence I have (US, non-SF) suggests being connected or related to the local police is a blue collar signifier.

I'm not arguing that it isn't some sort of privilege, but suggesting that you also have to have "a couple millions" first sounds peculiar to me.
