Shopify pays out my app store sales via PayPal every two weeks.

I see vendors at local farmer's markets / craft shows / etc using PayPal's card reader to take credit cards in person.

Those that use a different brand of reader often still accept Venmo for payment, which is owned by PayPal.

I occasionally still use PayPal to pay if I'm shopping at a site I don't know if I should trust.
