"Please tell us something surprising or amusing that one of you has discovered. (The answer need not be related to your project.)"

I can't help but wonder if there is a dusty film in someone's basement of Alan Turing swing-dancing to Glenn Miller in front of Bletchley Park sometime in the early 1940s.

Because that is how people will view this in 50 years or so. Awesome!

I need yoooouuu to put down the laptop before you start doing club dances.

Yo! That is Master GPL! Respect or he will pop a cap in your stack.

Um- testing the accelerometer?

The best confluence of hacking and hip hop since Monzy's "Drama in the PhD"

http://graphics.stanford.edu/~monzy/DramainthePhD.mp3

I thought Monzy's "Kill Dash Nine" was even funnier.

(Monzy was one of my TAs last year!)

I prefer the MP3 version. Here it is, complete with an insightful intro by the man himself:

"The best confluence of hacking and hip hop"

That's like saying the best confluence of oil and water.

Um, no, you're just being arbitrary. Someone could just as easily say that about hacking and heavy metal. They'd be just as wrong.

Actually it is worse than arbitrary. The greatest bastion of electronic music in the main stream is in hip hop. Metal makes far less use of computers and such.

Isn't calling someone wrong kind of arbitrary?

I didn't call you wrong. I said you are equally as wrong as someone who says some arbitrary other type of music is antithetical to hacking.

Then I'd also be equally as right, right?

That feels a little less arbitrary.

Exactly. :D

you obviously haven't heard of the genre "nerd core". it's exploding.

You're right. I'm far too nerdy for anything that's "exploding".

Isn't "nerd core" a contradiction in terms?

I had no idea. That was too good. (Except the bit about being picked last for dodgeball was hitting a little below the belt).

I'm glad I saw that. Now destroy that link forever.

What about MC Hawking? Entropy is my song: http://www.amazon.com/Brief-History-Rhyme-Hawkings-Greatest/...

Bah...you want some actual hardcore CS rap

MC Plus+ http://www.mcplusplus.com/

Featuring such masterful lyrics as:

  Project 2 in the databases,
around deadline I see desperate faces.
Concurrency control using two phase lockin'
two writes coming in, second one is blockin'

Is he a representative of the east or west coast contingent? This is consequential, you know.

doesn't MC Hawking rep Cambridge? (the one in England)

Sure does (East Side). I was talking about MCplusplus, though.

for those that haven't seen this one yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTby_e4-Rhg

Every time I hear that song I can slowly feel my brain decompose.

Many GPL'd sources do the same to my brain.

you guys know about 'superman' right? it's nasty.

in the scheme of slang terms for sexual acts, i would say it is nothing.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=superman+dat+...

Yeah, go play poker online, then run the names of your 9 opponents through urban dictionary. Odds are 2 will be worse.

I just hope the same thing goes for fantasy sports.

I love the lab coats.

oh...my...god...he's a better dancer than I am :P

I'm not that surprised by this, actually. RMS was very big into folk dancing at one point in his life.

So is that like... A macarena type fad? Please explain this to us old folks =\

What is a 'macarena type fad'? Please explain this to us young folks ;)

BTW, how can one be "trapped" at 23? http://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=altano

Surprisingly easily

He's just trying to impress the lady in black.

(Or some other lady nearby.)

pffft.... lets see if he can do the spiderman

He's the worst dancer. I remember reading his bio about how he spent years training as a folk dancer. Guess it didn't do much good.

I think he is much better than anyone else in the movie. He carries it well at about 0:20-0:25, while the others look like spastic white people.
